Program Manager – Church Engagement & Mercy Ministries

Location: Sydney, NSW

Date advertised: Monday 28 March – 24 April 2022

Job type: 0.6FTE part-time (with the possibility of negotiating additional areas of responsibility up to 1.0FTE, depending on the candidate)

Anglican Deaconess Ministries invites applications for the role of Program Manager – Church Engagement and Mercy Ministries.

Since 1891, ADM has equipped and encouraged women to serve Christ, particularly amongst marginalised and vulnerable people. Building on the rich foundations laid by the deaconesses, ADM works to see an integrated, discipleship-focused mercy ministry in every church.

As Christians share the love of Jesus with our communities, we see the beauty of the gospel on display. As churches become accessible and welcoming, more and more people have the opportunity to meet Jesus and experience his love. At ADM, we support this coming together of Word and deed in local churches - just as we see this in Jesus’ own life.

As Program Officer you will be responsible for working with local churches to support and resource existing church-based mercy ministries to thrive, as well as fostering the development of new and innovative programs within churches. A Christian with a strong, vibrant faith, you have a biblical framework for mercy ministries, centred in the gospel and in growing disciples for Jesus. With a degree in a relevant field of study and theological training, you also have a generalist understanding of a number of social issues. With an understanding of and developed networks within the Sydney Anglican Diocese, you are able to develop and grow a mercy ministry network across churches. You will use your experience in a combination of project management, training and community engagement to develop community chaplaincy traineeships.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and growing a mercy ministry network to provide support and equipping to ministers and congregants

  2. Identifying and promoting innovative church-based solutions in caring for the marginalized and vulnerable

  3. Working with Mary Andrews College to develop community chaplaincy traineeships and study pathways

  4. Overseeing grants for church-based mercy ministries
