In 1960, Doreen Garrick was ordained as a Deaconess of Sydney. Since then she’s served faithfully in the communities she’s been a part of. It is no wonder, then, that last month she was recognised with a local achievement award for community leadership of Goodwin Retirement Village, Woolahra.

Independent Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich presented the honour to Dss. Garrick, and said that when he was approached about the award, he “immediately thought of Doreen and the great work that she does in the village by community-building.”

He commended her for “being a very positive and very forthright and a very encouraging and community-focussed person and leader of the community at Goodwin Village”.

“Thank you all very much,” responded Dss. Garrick to her supporters who attended the event at Goodwin Village, “and I look forward to serving you for a bit longer!”

Throughout her life, Dss. Garrick’s faithful service to the community has extended far beyond her work at Goodwin Village. Read more about her life of Christian service here.
