Mary Andrews Prize

Mary Andrews College likes to encourage excellence amongst the students and each year the Mary Andrews Prize is awarded to the student(s) with the highest grade at the level of high distinction in any Mary Andrews College subject in a calendar year.  The Prize is valued at $500 and is awarded to the student at the Mary Andrews College graduation in the year following the academic achievement.

Mary Andrews (1916-1996) graduated from SMBC in 1938 and travelled to China with CMS as a missionary until 1945, when she was forced to leave the war-torn country.  On returning to Sydney Australia, she attended Deaconess House until her graduation in 1946 (now called Mary Andrews College). Mary returned to China in 1947 and remained there until 1951 when the Communist Party came into power and it was no longer safe for her to stay.  Deaconess Andrews served with distinction as Superintendant of Deaconess House 1952-1975.
